#reverb10 – PARTY!

{For the month of December I’m participating in #reverb10 – an online initiative that prompts people to reflect on the past year and look towards the new one.}

December 9 – Party Prompt: Party. What social gathering rocked your socks off in 2010? Describe the people, music, food, drink, clothes, shenanigans. (Author: Shauna Reid)

Here’s the deal…I’m lame. I don’t party much. I did in my youth. “But you’re not all that old,” you say. And you’re right. But I feel I did my fair share of partying and now I’m over it. I much prefer a quiet dinner party with close friends at home drinking good wine, eating good food, wearing comfy clothes. Much more my speed these days.

For example, we had a little shin-dig at my parents when my brother and his wife were in town. My brother, my mom, my sister and I all drank too much and spent the better part of the night swapping stories and laughing our asses off. It’s hard to have that kind of concentrated time with people at a loud, crowded party.

Anyway, I suppose the only party I can cop to would be a celebration this year that was amazing. You know that itty bitty family member I’ve mentioned who passed away early this year? Well, we threw a celebration of her short little life in my backyard. A beautiful alter was set up, all of the guests brought flowers, the manfriend busted his hinney getting the yard looking nice despite the mounds of cotton falling from the trees, and my mom and I made some killer grub for everyone – wonderful things like chilled artichokes, fresh cheese, sweet potato coffee cake, lovely cupcakes, brie with raspberries wrapped in puff pastry – it was all very elegant!

We laid blankets in the grass for our picnic and everyone was requested to wear white. We laughed, we cried, we hugged, we told stories and it was all wonderful. My mom tried to instigate a human pyramid, but we shot her down. There were so many ways that could go wrong! All in all, it was a terrific afternoon and I’m so glad I was a part of it.

  • About Me

    My mother is an encyclopedia of useless information (sorry, ma, but it's true) - no one can beat her at Trivial Pursuit. As I age, I become more like dear old mom everyday. I routinely tell people about resources, recipes, tips, tricks, or websites I've heard about, tried, live by, etc. until one of my clients urged me to start a blog. So here it is! My perpetual ramblings. I hope you find them useful and amusing. If you don't, you can either keep it to yourself or leave me a well constructed critique.

    I'm a former massage therapist, a freelance journalist, and a web information architect and UX designer. I enjoy yoga, the Bar Method, camping, reading, gardening, and spending time with my friends and loved ones. I live in Colorado.
