Stella has a sleepover

My parents visited my little brother in TN this past week. The manfriend and I watched their dog, Sophie. I really appreciated the opportunity to spend some time with her. She’s a very special pooch and has been a huge part of our family for the past 12 years. We’ve had many, many pets over the years, but Sophie is different – she’s the first pet that really fit.

Stella, of course, loves Sophie! She can barely leave her alone, constantly trying to lick her face and get in her good graces. Sophie is abundantly patient but will definitely let Stella know when she’s had enough. All in all, they got along great. Sophie was even kind enough to let Stella crash out in her bed. All weekend long we’d find Stella curled up in Sophie’s bed. Sophie would just look at her, sniff, and walk off like, “Whatever, kid. It’s going home with me!”

When Sophie did leave, Stella seemed a bit disappointed. The manfriend and I wondered what each of them must have thought about the situation. Did Stella think Sophie’s presence was permanent? Did Sophie think she was living with us now? That’s the funny thing about having pets – you never really know what they’re thinking or how they’re feeling. It’s a bit of a mystery.
